Putting Together a New Space

MAKING YOUR NEW SPACE FEEL LIKE HOME

When Jan decided to downsize from a single-family suburban home to a townhouse, she felt overwhelmed by the process of moving. An empty-nester, she needed help planning and managing the move as well as with the physical labor of moving.

She turned to M+M Transitions to ease the stress of her relocation. With the new space and Jan’s treasured belongings in mind, we started with a plan and budget. The move plan included how to pare down Jan’s possessions so they would fit into her new, downsized home. We packed and unpacked her belongings and deleted items she no longer needed. We organized her new space to make it comfortable and efficient for her as she ages – the things she uses most often were placed within easy reach and organized for her convenience.

We also decorated Jan’s new townhouse to create a warm and inviting feel with the open-concept main floor. We mixed existing pieces like a beautiful dining room table and sideboard and a plaid overstuffed chair with her new black leather sofa and area rug from Pottery Barn. A beloved trunk, which was a family heirloom, became the coffee table in the living room. To pull it all together, worn dining room chairs were recovered with a vibrant floral and striped pattern, and a lovely  oil painting that belonged to her father was re-framed.

Jan is now settled in her new home enjoying the perfect mix of old, familiar, and beloved belongings with the freshness of new furnishings and décor.

“Having such a wonderful space that is totally done is such a relief and has enabled my family to be so much closer.”
